Porcelain Crowns
Dental crowns are one of the restoration
methods that help to protect cracked or broken teeth. They
are also referred to as caps as the entire surface of the
damaged teeth is covered by a crown or a cap. Dental crowns
help to strengthen the damaged teeth and help to enhance their
functionality. Crowns are usually made of gold, alloy of metals
in combination with porcelain, and pure porcelain. Pure porcelain
crowns are most popular as they look more natural and are
aesthetically attractive. Crowns that are made from metal
fused to porcelain tend to show dark gum lines with time which
look awkward. Dental crowns are custom designed by professionals
according to the shape, size, and color of the individual’s
teeth.
Why Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are the best option if the
large portion of teeth has been fractured or they are severely
damaged to support fillings or inlays. They are used as a
cover of protection in addition to the composite filling or
inlays in case of large cavity. Dental crowns are also used
in combination with dental implant, dental
bridges, and root canal treatment to provide extra strength
to the teeth and enhance their overall functionality. Many
people also opt for dental crowns to improve
their smile.

What is the procedure of Porcelain Crowns?
The entire procedure of crowns is completed in two visits to the dentist. During the first visit the dentist will take the impression of the teeth in order to get the custom crowns fabricated. In this visit only they will also create a temporary crown and fit it on the patient’s teeth. The patient has to keep the temporary crowns for two weeks. During the second visit the temporary crowns are removed by the dentist and replaced by the permanent custom made crowns. The dentist will properly remove the decay and take care of the spacing and bite accuracy before fitting the crowns.
